As a Club, we are keen to encourage all members to develop their archery and have therefore introduced a 252 Award Scheme.
This is designed to designed to help members practice their shooting at different distances whilst recognising their progress and improvements (this is separate to the Archery GB classification badges).
After 6 sighters, archers shoot 3 dozen arrows on a 122cm face at the chosen distance. The round can be shot at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 or 90 meters (and 10 meters for Juniors only) with the aim of scoring 252 or better (alternative scores apply for other bow types). Once the archer has achieved the score twice they can claim a badge.
It is an award scheme in use at many archery clubs in the UK and applies to all archers, irrespective of age, ability or bow type (scores differ by bowtype).
This scheme is self-regulating: the club will not be checking the scores, etc – as long as the scoresheet below is used, and is signed by a witness, that is all the checking that will be done! Basically, if you give the Membership Officer (Claire Griffiths) 2 sheets that reach the score for a distance, she will give you a badge!
The main rules are:
• GNAS Rules of Shooting to apply.
• The attempt for the 252 score must be the first shoot of the day.
• Scores required: Recurve=252, Barebow=189, Compound=280, Longbow=164
• 36 arrows (3 doz) to be shot at the specified distance using a 122cm target face and GNAS five zone scoring. The three dozen arrows may be shot alone or as the first three dozen of a longer round.
• Six sighter arrows are permitted which will not count towards the final score.
• Once the archer has achieved the minimum required score, the 252 badge may be awarded for that distance on application to the Membership officer.
• The round can be shoot at the following distances 20m, 30m, 40m, 50m, 60m, 70m & 90m (Juniors can also shoot at 10m).
• There is no restriction on the order of distances in which badges are obtained (i.e. a 30m badge may be obtained before a shorter distance is attempted, which may then be obtained at a later date).
• You can only claim one 252 score per day.
• Scores can be recorded on a separate Club scoresheet.
• It is the responsibility of the archer concerned to make a claim on the correct score card witnessed by at least one other archer, who will confirm the scores and sign and print their name on completion.
